Bellator Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard is already scheduled for action inside Bellator's cage this May, but he's getting back to action later this month back in Australia.
According to a report from Sherdog.com, Lombard will meet UFC vet Joe Doerksen at a Cage Fighting Championship event on March 25 at Luna Park’s Big Top Stadium in Sydney.
Lombard will defend his CFC Middleweight Championship in the fight, defending the belt for the sixth time since winning it in 2007. The dual organization champ has gone unbeaten in 21 fights dating back to 2006, and returns to CFC after three straight fights in Bellator.
Doerksen takes the fight after consecutive losses in the UFC in 2010 led to his release. He holds a 46-14 overall record in 60 career fights, though he only posted a 2-7 mark in the UFC in nine appearances.
Penick's Analysis: It's good that Lombard likes to keep busy, but even though Doerksen represents a better level of competition than he has been facing recently, he's still not fighting the level he should be. As a fighter who has won 20 of his last 21 fights with one draw thrown in there, he should be competing against top 10 level competition, and being outside of the UFC and Strikeforce just isn't going to allow for that.
