Daniel Straus finally beat Patricio "Pitbull" Freire on Friday night at Bellator 145, taking the Bellator Lightweight Championship by unanimous decision. Straus had lost twice to Freire in the past, including a submission loss in January of this year, but he put together an overall impressive performance, even though the fight was closer than let on by the night's commentators.
The performance is even more impressive with his revelation on Instagram today that he suffered a bad break to his hand early in the first round. He posted the x-rays, and said he was told the break was "one of the worst breaks some doctors have ever seen."

Penick's Analysis: That's a horrifying break, and looks insanely painful. That one's likely to require some type of surgery, and I'd imagine Straus is going to be out for a while. It's crazy he fought as effectively as he did throughout that fight after suffering that damage in the first round. Credit to him for gutting through and earning the decision, but it came at cost. Hopefully he's able to recover relatively quickly.
