"The Last Emperor" Fedor Emelianenko will be in Connecticut later this month to help promote Bellator 134 "The British Invasion," but Bellator President Scott Coker says not to read too much into it.
Coker revealed on Friday that Emelianenko will join Tito Ortiz, Royce Gracie, and Ken Shamrock at fan events on Feb. 26 and 27 surrounding the card, but that's the extent of the situation.
"He's a legend of the sport," Coker said (via MMAFighting.com). "He should be here meeting his fans. We're excited, because it's the first time he's been in the United States for I want to say three years. It's a big deal."
"I know some people will look into it more than what they should. We have a good relationship with Fedor. He's happy to come. How great for the fans? ... For the fans for actually reach out and touch him and get his autograph, get his picture, it's a great thing."
Penick's Analysis: It will certainly be a fun things for fans in the area to do a meet and greet type thing with Emelianenko when he's been away for as long as he has. Though Coker had expressed interest in trying to get Emelianenko to fight for Bellator, that wasn't something that seemed all that likely. Still, getting him to do something like this is a solid move.
