Upon signing with Bellator earlier this month, Kimbo Slice said he was interested in a fight with Tito Ortiz. Well, that's not a feeling Ortiz is reciprocating.
The UFC Hall of Famer said recently in an interview with Brazil's Ag.Fight, Ortiz said he has absolutely no interest in that matchup.
"Fighting Kimbo is a step down for me," said Ortiz (transcribed by MMAFighting.com). In his last fight he was choked out and he is a street fighter, I'm a world champion. Fighting someone like Kimbo is a step down. I don't want to fight a street fighter."
What Ortiz is looking forward to is a matchup for Bellator's Light Heavyweight Championship, and he thinks he'll be getting that this spring against the winner of next month's Emanuel Newton vs. Liam McGeary fight.
"I'll be fighting in May, possibly in June," Ortiz said. "I have to wait for the fight between Emanuel Newton and McGeary and I hope to fight the winner."
Penick's Analysis: Ortiz-Kimbo would have probably been something Spike TV would have liked to put together if only for the viewership it might have gained, but yes, it's very much below Ortiz. Honestly, Kimbo's a bit below Bellator. He hasn't had an MMA fight in five years, and hasn't fought in any capacity in a couple of years. They're hoping his past notoriety brings eyeballs, and it might, but Ortiz doesn't need to be in that fight.
