Spike TV's going to try to perhaps confuse the market on Saturday night, as they'll be running a 90-minute special featuring Eddie Alvarez's two epic fights with Michael Chandler in their entirety opposite Alvarez's UFC debut at UFC 178.
The program, "Eddie Alvarez: Free on Spike" will kick off with the 2011 "Fight of the Year" candidate from Bellator 58, and will be immediately followed by their 2013 rematch.
The show begins at 10PM ET, meaning it will air opposite the UFC 178 pay-per-view, and likely during Alvarez's fight with Cerrone in Las Vegas.
Penick's Analysis: The move makes sense for Spike to try confusing fans hearing off hand about Eddie Alvarez and then maybe tuning in. However, as good as those two fights were, if anyone is tuning in to watch them and skipping out on Alvarez's fight with Cerrone on Saturday night, they're only missing out themselves. Further, it's something that will also highlight the fact that Bellator's reigning Champion is no longer in the organization. That hurts when Chandler is fighting for the title in his next fight in November, and they're showcasing him getting beat by Alvarez in the rematch. Questionable strategy.
