Pat Curran will make his second attempt at capturing a Bellator Fighting Championships title on March 9 in Hammond, Ind., as the Chicago Tribune reports that Curran will take on Joe Warren for the Bellator Featherweight Title at at Bellator 61.
Curran challenged Eddie Alvarez for the Bellator Lightweight Championship after winning the season two lightweight tournament. He lost a five-round decision to Alvarez, but impressed in the fight nonetheless.
He then entered the featherweight division, running through the summer series tournament in highly impressive fashion in 2011.
Warren will enter the title defense off of a loss, suffered in September in his bid to get through the bantamweight tournament. Warren's winning streak was snapped in vicious fashion as Alexis Vila knocked him out cold in their opening round bout.
Penick's Analysis: Curran has looked increasingly fantastic throughout his run in Bellator, trading in some debatable decisions against Roger Huerta and Toby Imada for decisive victories in his featherweight run. He'll make for an extremely formidable challenge for Warren, who has had some favorable outcomes in many fights that could have gone against him. This will be a very tough fight for both, and should make for a good title bout for Bellator's sixth season.
