Former WWE wrestler Dave Batista (real name David Bautista, Jr.), may be joining Strikeforce in the near future.
The 41 year old, 6'6" Bautista has been training to begin a fighting career since leaving the WWE earlier this year, and in a video at TMZ.com he says he'll be fighting for the organization.
However, a report from MMAJunkie.com states that Bautista has not officially signed with the organization, citing Strikeforce spokesperson Mike Afromowitz. The report does state that the organization has had talks with Bautista, and also that he may be offered a contract, but that nothing is set at this point.
Bautista, in the TMZ video, said that he knew who his opponent would be but wouldn't share who that was.
If Bautista makes the transition, he'd be the third high profile WWE star to make the transition to MMA after Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley, and MMAJunkie speculates he could be set up against Herschel Walker could be on the docket.
Penick's Analysis: This is a terrible idea and a ridiculous thing for Strikeforce to consider. Batista is 41 years old and is nowhere near the athlete that Walker is, and this would be a complete joke. Scott Coker wouldn't sign Kimbo Slice but he'll take Batista? It's really terrible when they've got so many fighters under contract that are not getting fights in a timely fashion that they would give a televised spot to a debuting Batista. I would say it's unbelievable but these are the kinds of moves that we've seen out of Strikeforce before.
