...OH, ONE MORE THING - PLEASE BOOKMARK US & VISIT DAILY!
By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief Affliction's Day of Reckoning pay-per-view comes to us next month, and the card is getting closer to completion. The official website for Day Of Reckoning yesterday posted an updated fight card with an opponent named for Renato "Babalu" Sobral. That fighter is none other than the recently released from the UFC Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.
The website jumped the gun, however, as Affliction vice president Tom Atencio told MMAJunkie.com yesterday that the deal was not final. He said, "It's just a matter of how many fights and making sure that we all come to mutual agreements."
Sobral has been booked for the event for some time now, and at one point there was talk of him fighting a catchweight bout with Matt Lindland; Lindland will be facing off against Vitor Belfort, however, in the middleweight division. Sobral is coming off a victory last month against Bobby Southworth to capture the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Championship.
Sokoudjou, of course, is coming off a loss to Luis Cane in October that led to his release from the UFC last month. After riding a wave of momentum into the promotion from some big victories in PRIDE, Sokoudjou couldn't live up to the hype, going 1-2 in his three fights with the company, with losses to both Cane and Lyoto Machida.
This will be a tough fight for both fighters, and should be a good match up for the under card of this second Affliction show. Once again, Affliction: Day of Reckoning is live on pay-per-view on Saturday, January 24th; the prelim fights will air live on HDNet prior to the start of the pay-per-view.
