By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief Josh Barnett may now have an opponent for Affliction's Day of Reckoning pay-per-view on January 24th. He has been advertised for the event, and now Sam Caplan at FiveOuncesOfPain.com is reporting that Affliction is currently attempting to get Brett Rogers for a bout with the "Babyface Assasin" for that card. Rogers is still under contract to ProElite, but they are giving permission to fighters to sign one shot deals as they attempt to get things together.
Rogers is 8-0 in his MMA career, including a victory in the first ever MMA fight on network television on the debut edition of CBS's Saturday Night Fights. He publicly clamored for a fight with Kimbo Slice after that event, although it obviously never came to fruition.
As Caplan states, no deal is in place as of yet, but Rogers is the preferred opponent for Affliction officials. This would be Rogers's first fight since that May 31st event, and Barnett's first since defeating Pedro Rizzo at the inaugural Affliction event in July.
Penick's Analysis: This fight will be a huge test for Rogers, and will also give him a chance to make a name for himself against a top 10 fighter. I don't see that happening, as Barnett will prove to be too much of a step up in competition, but Rogers could do wonders for himself with simply a good showing in the fight.
