THE TORCH: THE #1 WORLDWIDE BRAND IN COMBAT ENTERTAINMENT COVERAGE - OVER 250 MILLION VIEWS & LISTENS PER YEAR REREACHING MORE FANS EVERY WEEK THAN ANY OTHER INDEPENDENT SOURCE • VIA THE WEB, MOBILE, PRINT NEWSLETTER, AND ITUNES
As you've likely noticed, over the last month we've added several new regular features and regular writers to our team. We aren't done yet, though! If you are interested in contributing to MMATorch, we still have a few slots open for people who have the knowledge, passion, time to commit, strong writing ability, and capacity to meet deadlines reliably.
A few areas of interest include:
-TV Week Preview: We'd like to feature a weekly article on Mondays that previewed what was available that week on TV (some weeks are more packed than others) on Spike, Versus, Showtime, etc. We'd want someone with the knowledge to provide a "viewer's guide" that they could read before watching "UFC Unleashed," for example, to give them perspective on the ramifications of the fight that's being replayed. Of course, we'd also want an inclusion of live events, too.
-Book Reviews: If you read books on MMA and would be willing to write semi-regular reviews of books already published and timely reviews of new books that are published, let us know. We'd like to build a "reader's guide" to what's worth reading that's out there and what to stay away from or just skim.
-UFC Press Conference Reports: If you're a night owl and can do a thorough write-up on post-UFC PPV press conferences for the site, that would be a great addition to our line-up of fight-night coverage.
-News Blogs: If you scour all MMA media sources, Twitter pages, mainstream stories, etc. on a daily basis and have something to say about breaking news (and the background knowledge to do so intelligently), we'd be interested in adding a few select "News Bloggers" to give their two cents on the "news of the day" throughout the week with short snippets of "reaction" so that when news breaks, readers would get a sense over time of your perspective on the MMA world and trust and anticipate what you think of the latest happenings.
-Weekly Columnists: We want to build up to having seven weekly columnists who write on a certain day each week about a subject of their choice, usually something having to do with events in the news over the previous week or two or an upcoming event. To be a good fit for this, you'd have to be a good self-started as you won't be "assigned" a subject and would have to bring a full-fledged column to the site once a week reliably.
-Audio Shows: If writing is not your thing, but you and a friend or two are interested in contributing a weekly audio show that would be featured on MMATorch and our podcast feed, send a sample or show proposal.
-Your Own Idea: Is there something you think would strengthen the content of MMATorch that we haven't implemented or thought of yet? Run it by us and maybe it'd be a great new addition.
When we open up the site to new writers, we generally get a lot of responses. We absolutely appreciate every one of you who writes, and we will write back to each of you one way or another. Please be patient, though, as it could take a couple weeks (although not usually) to get through the applications and sort out the top candidates for each slot.
Anyone who joins the team of contributors could also be asked to participate in our revived Roundtable feature (based around current events, an upcoming event, or a just-concluded event) or upcoming Face-Off "debate-style" feature. But we prefer to use existing contributors for those features. We also will incorporate contributors into our audio show discussions for the free site and VIP site.
Send your application (with the role that you think would be a good fit and a little background on yourself) to: mmatorch@gmail.com

"There's still a large contingent of people, that they just want to see these guys almost die, or the other guy almost die and come back, and sometimes fights are like that. Certainly they are. But sometimes you get technical masterpieces too, and to hate a beautiful, technical fight - you're not really a fight fan...
Diaz has a granite chin, possesses perhaps the best recovery in the sport, his pace and conditioning are second to none and he sets records with the volume of his punches almost every time he steps into the cage. Nick Diaz is simply designed to fight the way he fights, and not many other fighters are...
"There was a lot of poison going on around there and I'm really disappointed because we had a good thing going. It was a good thing and I think people's egos got in the way. Well, not people just Javier, his ego got in the way, and too many cameras in the gym and him trying to build himself up and his brand, his AKA brand...
