First off, I'd like to apologize for my absence the past week or so. Busy week at work + taxes + a day in the hospital with the wife = me missing my deadline. It's inexcusable, but those are my feeble excuses.

So it sure sounds like Tim Sylvia and Fedor are all but set to GET....IT....ON! Well its about time. This is the fight Timmah has been calling for for years now. Aside from Couture, this is the fight for Fedor everyone will want to see. I know, I know, Josh Barnett should get the first crack, but I'm going to let everyone in on a little secret: 90% of MMA fans have no idea who Josh Barnett is. Hell, if it wasn't for half of the episodes of the syndicated Pride show on FSN being solely dedicated to Fedor's greatness, most fans wouldn't even know who he is either.

Despite the constant criticisms of big Tim (and I'm certainly guilty here too),  he remains one of the top heavyweights in the world, not to mention he's one of the most recognizable. The problems his size create can't be underestimated. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not picking Tim to win (we'll cross that bridge when the time comes), but I'm not predicting another Fedor domination either.

I don't know why I'm even writing about this anyway. Somehow, some way this fight will fall through, and we'll end up with a spectacular Fedor vs. Ricco Rodriguez match-up instead.

Enough about that, though. Let's talk about something more relevant. Let's talk about the triumphant return of the MMATorch Betting and Prediction contests! In it's third incarnation, I'll be administering the events. I'd like to put out an APB for my disappearing comrades Randy Rowles and Jerry Cattelane. If anyone has any knowledge of their whereabouts please let us know. We'd love to have their words of wisdom back at the Torch. I think entering the contests for UFC 83 would be the perfect way to make YOUR triumphant returns guys. I'll make a more formal announcement about the contest tomorrow, along with the lines for the betting. Then I'll have my complete preview with picks/bets on Wednesday. So everybody get ready and put your trash-talking shoes on!
